Thanks for coming to our restaurant. We will do our best for our customers and serve the best Korean BBQ that we can.
God bless you
Where do I begin with this hole-in-a-wall gem. I wish I could give it a zero star so people to deter from coming so I don't wait so long when I come. However, having said that, the wait is definitely worth it. Lots of delicious sides (not to mention one of the best kimchi I've had in the bay area). They're also very generous with the sides. The free seafood pancake is also one of the best perks about this restaurant. The combo meal is always my to-go choice because of the variety (fried rice at the end, soup, pancake, meat). Don't be fooled by their serving. When dining as 2, we order the 1.5 family combo; as 3 people, we order 2 family combo. Again, very generous with serving. Waiters and the owner are incredibly nice and accommodating as I am always nitpicky my food. When we are in a hurry, we order bibimbap to go (also another dish that I've had to be one of the best in the peninsula). Their ddukbbokki is just as amazing - not too spicy or sweet. The place is open late, which is always a plus! I cannot tell you how many times we've visited here. This will always be one of our favorite spots! This was my yelp find so I hope this review draws more people in! 🙂
Great place for a small group of friends. Be ready to consume enough food for a food coma. You get your money's worth.
Craving Korean BBQ, but don't want to pay the crazy price? To Bang is the perfect place to go to with a small group. Even for a group of five, ordering the family of four would still be very filling. The sides are probably what keeps me coming back though, specifically the sweet potatoes and fish cake! YUM. They also started adding sliced pork belly (compared to the thick-cut, bacon-looking ones), which looks similar to brisket, but it more chewy and juicy. Definitely a positive addition to the menu. Also love how the workers help cook the meat, so our group can minimize the risk of getting food poisoning from that one friend that has questionable cooking skills. While the workers may be hustling and bustling during peak hours, they always manage to maintain their friendliness. When our group came a couple days ago, they also gave out free dokkboki on the house, in addition to the usual free seafood pancake (which goes great with the red sauce). Basically, To Bang always hits the spot for my kbbq cravings and makes me feel like the 45 min worth. Just make sure you come in early so you avoid the crowds on the weekends!
We were in San Jose and some friends suggested we go here. Great place to get your Korean food on. We came with a party of 5 hungry people, and we got the 5 persons meal, we left home with left overs. Located at a place with a bunch of other Korean restaurants, this place had a line and a wait. It was well worth it. When you watch mama-san running around the restaurant, you know the huddle is real. They are very generous with their food portions. This place was pretty big, but it felt homely. Like the hole in the wall, great eating place you've heard about feeling.
Huge pile of food and they're delicious! Two of us got the BBQ meat for 1.5 person and there's so much food to take home still. I can't name of anything that doesn't taste good. The free seafood pancake when you check in is another bonus. I wish this place is not so far from my house!
For some authentic Korean BBQ, come here. They may not be the "all you can eat kbbq" that everyone is going for, but the meat is better, the flavor is amazing, and the service is just A+. They do assist you with the grilling, which can be a pro or con, depends on you like to eat your KBBQ. Basically for ~$50 my boyfriend and I walked away way too stuffed, and had lunch for the next day. Which I think is a way better deal than other places. Get the meal for 2, which basically can feed 3-4.
5 stars for great food, great prices, and great service! Usually hitting all 3 notes is not so typical for Asian restaurants, but To Bang has got it down. I planned a dinner at To Bang for my husband's birthday after reading the reviews and knowing of some friends who love this place. Since they do not take reservations, 4/8 of us arrived around 6pm with the rest of the people coming at 7:30pm. We were a little too optimistic and 20 minutes later at 6:20pm, our name was called. We let the hostess know that the rest of our party would arrive at 7:30pm and she told us to let her know when everyone was there. We kept the hostess updated with our status and all friends arrived by 7:20pm. Smart idea, my husband decided to pre-order everything while we waited. All 8 of us were seated around 7:35pm and the servers had already set out our order - variety of banchan, 4 different soups, and plates of beef/pork for bbq. I didn't even look at the menu since my husband ordered, but I was told we ordered a family combo for 8 people which includes meats, banchan, and soups, all for $150. I couldn't believe how good of a price it was. Plus points - banchan includes Seafood Pancake which is awesome! This is something I typically do not order at other restaurants since it is always so expensive. At the end, they make fried rice for the table on the bbq. YUM. Everything was tasty - I wouldn't say that the food here is the best Korean I have had, but the food is very good. When we got the bill, the total was $230 for 8 people which included the family combo, multiple orders of rice, several bottles of sake, few sodas, and gratuity. I was very surprised at the bill amount - $28/person including tax and tip and there was definitely no shortage of food. On top of the good food and prices, the service was great. Service was attentive - we never had to ask more than once for something, wait long before the server came to check on us, bbq meats were constantly being tended to, and service was always delivered with a smile and friendliness. When we left, the hostess kept thanking us and apologizing for the wait - I told her it was fine since we mainly waited so long because we got there way too early! I would definitely recommend To Bang, especially for group dinners. Everyone will leave satisfied without feeling like they shelled out a ton of money, which is typical at most Korean restaurants. Also surprisingly, we left here without smelling like KBBQ - even with a full house!
Almost did not believe Kathleen W. when she mentioned Tobang was one of her top Korean restaurants, especially since we have been to Seoul together, but I am now a firm believer in all that is Tobang. After a night of climbing at Planet Granite, stopped by Tobang close to 10pm - I appreciated that Tobang is open until midnight. We were promptly seated and Kathleen W. recommended we order the small family size. Even though there were only two of us, this combo dinner could really feed a small family - egg soup, hot tofu soup, two meat dishes, seafood pancake, and many sides made the dinner for us two a meal of epic proportions. We ended up ordering the spicy pork and bulgogi - both of which were good and pre-cooked (which was good considering we were pretty wiped out after PG). But one of the best things was the service. Even though it was near 10pm, the servers were smily and always willing to help. One of the female servers came by so frequently to refill sides and water so that we always had a full table that I wanted to get up and hug her b/c she was so kind and generous. Overall an excellent and filling meal that turned into lunch the next day due to leftovers. Will definitely come back for that family meal deal...probably with more people though next time 😉
My mouth is drooling just thinking about this place. Here is my take. I know a few reviewers here have compared this to GEN which is fair. I've tried both places and I like both for different reasons. Unlike GEN, Tobang is more of a whole package of what is on your table. The meat is good, the banchan is good and the service is good. The meat may not be marinaded in some unique seasoning but Tobang provides some tasty sauces and WAY BETTER banchan than GEN that makes every bite delicious. It's up to you to enjoy the food. I've never had home made korean food but I would imagine it would taste something what Tobang offers. They also have complimentary seafood pancake and one other dish I never got the name. Lastly, if going with a group, they offer packages already so ordering is really easy. You get to pick a bottle of soju or hot sake too!
